Autobrennt Podcast #085: Derek Marin

Subtrak Spotlight

A key figure of the underground scene, Derek Marin has been making a name for himself in both the DJ booth and the studio for over 20 years. At 40, he is considered among the most prolific producers today, proving age is but a number. Sharing credits with the likes of Depeche Mode’s Andrew Fletcher, Mr. C, Carl Craig, Alexi Delano, Adultnapper and working with revered labels such as Superfreq, Get Physical, Fade, Dirtybird and many more, Marin continues to impress listeners with each new project. Just yesterday, in fact, Marin released a new compilation album via Little Helpers.

With years of experience under his belt, it should come as no surprise that Marin launched his very own imprints, Faucet Music and Like Button, back in 2004 while also spearheading Subtrak Records. On top of his label duties, Marin continues to make producing and live set main priorities in his life. This week, he is gearing up to headline the sixth anniversary party for Sheik ‘N’ Beik at Output on Sunday, Feb. 9. Ahead of the celebration, Marin took some time to curate our latest podcast.

Seasoned Marin fans and new listeners will undoubtedly be hooked from the start. Marin’s mix masterfully brings together a delectable array of raw, dusky cuts, intoxicating deep house gems and melancholy-tinged tracks resulting in a dark, twisted but beautiful journey. Among the artists featured in the mix are Marin himself, Affkt/Markus Homm, Octa Otca, False Image and Della Zouch, to name a few. That should give you plenty of insight, but our advice is to throw it on and have a listen (or five) for your listening pleasure.
