On a very rainy day last June, Terrence Dixon stopped by Subtrak to meet with Ryan Brogan and Christian Bloch. After a couple of good beers and minimal conversation, the three decided to head to the machines and sketch a few songs in freeform....
Inspired by the dynamics between silence and sound, Kirkwood West expands the techno genre and elevates listener through this music. Deep in the studio, he focuses on audio synthesis; fusing minimal with classic Detroit and Chicago vibes. With this deep focus comes outward action, where he can be found djing and performing live throughout the Mid-West and West-Coast. Kirkwood West recently started sending out music to his peers and a few of his favorite producers. His first release, Artificial Barriers, on Subtrak Records connects him with long time hero and favorite Christian Bloch. "I've been listing to Christians music since '99, his ever evolving loops and driving minimal always have a special place in my awareness. It's been a pleasure to connect and share ideas with such talent," says Kirkwood West. With this first release and many more to follow, 2009 is the beginning of the next odyssey for this new talent.
